MTV’s Countdown to “MTV First: Robert Pattinson” #3 – Robert Pattinson Wonders Why He’s At The Oscars

>> 2011/03/16

Try to remain calm. Only two days left until Robert Pattinson stops by MTV to premiere a new clip from “Water for Elephants” and answer fan questions live on camera. Okay, scratch remaining calm. We can hardly contain our excitement, so we’ll let you off the hook too! In honor of his arrival, we’re counting down the best of the best in MTV RPattz moments. (Catch up on No. 5 and No. 4 if you haven’t seen them already.)

In day three of our swoonfest, we bring you this clip from the February 2009 Oscars red carpet. Although “Twilight” didn’t get him any nominations, the Academy couldn’t ignore Hollywood’s biggest new star and box office hero on cinema’s most important night.

“It’s insane,” Robert told us on the carpet. “When they first told me about this, I was like, ‘No, no, no, no, no, you’re joking’—or ‘I’m going to have to do something really stupid like get gunged [British slang for slimed]!’”

Aww. How adorable is it that he almost expected to get covered in something slimey in order to be there? For that reason (and the fact that he used the word “gunged”) this moment definitely deserves its spot on our countdown. Rob, it’s the Oscars not Nickelodeon. As far as we know, that’s the only place you should ever worry about green goo.

During the ceremony, Rob joined Amanda Seyfried to present a montage of the year’s romantic films. And naturally, “Twilight” made the cut.

Tune into “MTV First: Robert Pattinson” on MTV and MTV.com this Friday at 8:56 p.m. ET!

Where does this red carpet moment rank on your list of favorite Rob memories? Sound off in the comments below and on Twitter! Don’t forget to come back tomorrow for No. 2 on our countdown!

Biography

Robert Thomas-Pattinson was born on May 13, 1986, in Barnes, a suburb of London, the capital of England. His mother, Clare, worked for a modeling agency, and his father, Richard, imported vintage cars from the U.S. Robert is the youngest of three kids in the Pattinson family, and the only son. He has two older sisters. Elizabeth is three years older than he is, and Victoria is five years older. Pattinson became involved in amateur theatre through the Barnes Theatre Company. After some backstage experience there, he took on acting roles. He caught the attention of an acting agent in a production of Tess of the D'Urbervilles and began looking for professional roles. Since then he has performed in an amateur version of Macbeth at the Old Sorting Office Arts Centre, as well as trying his hand at modeling. more

Musical career

Pattinson plays guitar and piano, and composes his own music. He also appears as the singer of two songs on the Twilight soundtrack:
"Never Think", which he co-wrote with Sam Bradley,
and "Let Me Sign", which was written by Marcus Foster and Bobby Long.
The soundtrack for the film How To Be features three original songs performed by Pattinson and written by composer Joe Hastings.
