“Remember Me” leaves audiences surprised

To describe this month's "Remember Me" in one word: tragic. This dark romantic drama is anything but a sweet courtship between two people, as the commercials may insinuate.

This film centers around Tyler, a distressed 21-year-old played by the fabulously handsome Robert Pattinson. His counterpart Ally, played by Emilie de Ravin, is a 21-year-old NYU student living at home in Queens with her police officer father.

After being arrested by Ally's dad, Tyler and his friend make a bet to get revenge. Tyler is off on a mission to take Ally on a date, and so the romance begins.

Each character is living with horrific incidents of his or her past that the other is left to uncover. Ally, who was traumatized by watching the murder of her mother, and Tyler, who is coping with the death of his suicidal brother, click almost instantly.

This movie is definitely not what it seems; the romance of Ally and Tyler is overshadowed by the tragedy in each of their lives and the absolute heartbreak that is the end.

"Remember Me" does a solid job of leaving the audience shocked. It is not predictable in the least bit, and if you have not read any spoilers, you will probably leave the theater asking yourself, "WTF?"

Robert Pattinson really steps out of his Edward Cullen safety zone and proves he is more than just a perfect vampire, while de Ravin is cute and quirky as Ally. The chemistry between the two is undeniable, and the film does not lack in the hot sex scene department.

There are a few instances of comedic relief with the help of Tyler's roommate Aidan, played by Tate Ellington, but they are few and far between. The rest of the supporting cast, which includes Pierce Brosnan, Chris Cooper and Ruby Jerins, helps set up the heart-wrenching story.

There are times of pure reality within this film because of its unpredictability and utterly depressing ending. "Remember Me" is able to capture the unfortunate reality that can sometimes be life.

If you have any intentions of seeing this movie, it is highly recommended you do not read any spoilers. This movie is depressing and you will leave the theater with a heavy heart. Anyone who is a sucker for a happy ending will be truly disappointed.
