Positive Review for Rob in “Little Ashes”
>> 2009/07/30
The nonverbal language of film is essential to understand the unique emotional bond that unites the two artists. Javier Beltran’s evident love for his Dalí is in each look, each gesture. Even his pain and confusion was palpable when history shows it requires.
But Robert Pattinson is the shining pillar on which the film argues. A real change of registration in respect of their previous work is an example of the incredible potential of the actor. His characterization of the deepest Dalí was not in appearance: each gesture is measured and calculated to construct the figure of the painter’s cartoon [caricature?] we all know. For Pattinson “Dalí was more than that bizarre clown at the end of his life, only concerned about money” and worried about not losing his memory, [his representation] has been a paper that speaks for itself without words.
